Entergy To Build 100-MW Solar Power Plant On 1,000 Acres In Mississippi Delta

Culled

This week developer Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, and utility Entergy Mississippi announced that the 100-MW Sunflower Solar Facility was unanimously approved by the Mississippi Public Service Commission.

Recurrent will construct the project and Entergy will assume ownership of it once it is complete under a build-transfer agreement (BTA) worth approximately $138.4 million. Recurrent said the BTA is one of the first of its kind in the U.S. and that the project will be the largest in the state of Mississippi once complete.

The project will use Canadian Solar modules and single-axis tracking. Its 350,000 PV modules will have a capacity of 100-MW. The project is estimated to create around 360 jobs as well.

Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO, said “The Sunflower Solar Facility will be key in helping us meet changing customer expectations. It will give us more sustainable ways to meet our customers’ energy needs while diversifying our fuel supply.”

The plant aims to begin commercial operation by mid-2022.
