Ghana | Africa’s “Yellow Brick” Road

Ghana Daily

In the La district of Accra, Ghana you will find the giant yellow plastic tapestries that resemble the fictional “yellow brick road” of The Wizard of Oz.

Serge Attukwei Clottey’s founder of Ghana’s GoLokal performance collective tackles plastic pollution by repurposing Jerrycans in his work. The artist works with the local people to cut up Jerrycans (Kufuor gallons) and stitch the pieces together. The locals collect the Kufuor gallons and bring them to Clottey’s workshop, where they are weighed and paid $3 (£2.30) per kilogramme.
