-NYSC PPRU
The Emir of Nasarawa in Nasarawa State In Nigeria, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Usman Jibril has commended the initiative of NYSC Director-General on the establishment of NYSC Museum of National History. He said the museum would serve as a good reference on past events of the Scheme for future generations. The Emir stated this today when he was led on a guided tour of the NYSC Museum at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, by the Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim.
The monarch who reminiscensed his youth service year experiences in Kaduna State as a member of the 10th set in 1983/84 service year was full of commendation for Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim over his purposeful leadership, bordering on good human and material management since assuming duty.
“It is with great delight that we undertook a guided tour of the NYSC Museum. We have seen a lot of historical documents which would be useful to our nation, including generations yet unborn.
We congratulate General Ibrahim for this wonderful initiative and laudable vision. We are proud of the DG and his entire team. It shows that Nigeria has a great future. We urge all other leaders in our country to emulate the good and selfless work that the NYSC is doing under the leadership of General Shuaibu Ibrahim”, he said.
In a similar vein, the National Association of College of Education Students equally poured encomiums on the NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim on his recent promotion. This was stated today when its President, Mr Augustine Anthony led the executives of the association on a courtesy visit to Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his office. The association lauded the introduction of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme which has been empowering Corps Members with skills, including loans to start their business ventures.
“You have proven to be a competent leader and we are proud to be associated with you”, the President said. They promised to lend voice to the quest to establish NYSC Trust Fund.
In his response, NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim said the Scheme introduced Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development in 2012 to reduce the level of unemployment among graduate youths in the country. He said many Ex-Corps Members that participated in Skill Acquisition programme in the course of service are today business owners and employers of labour. Ibrahim said efforts are in top gear to bring the NYSC Trust Fund to fruition which would expand the scope of the Scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
He disclosed that the Trust fund would make funds available to Corps Members to start their businesses based on the skills they acquire while in camp and also aid in addressing infrastructural deficits in the Scheme. Ibrahim added that the Scheme would continue to promote the unity of the country as envisioned by its founding fathers. He also appealed to the students to educate their colleagues on the importance of hardwork and dangers of cutting corners.
“Be focused and avoid social vices like drug trafficking and abuse. Be committed, and with strong determination you will reach your destination”, the DG advised.
