Congo DRC Launches Construction Of The Menkao Solar Power Plant

In the DRC, construction work on the Menkao solar power plant has just been launched. The infrastructure costing $ 1 billion will be built by The SANDI Group in two phases, the first of which will allow the installation of 600 MW.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Felix Tshisekedi launched the construction work for the Menkao solar power plant. The infrastructure will be located in the municipality of Maluku, 74 km from the capital Kinshasa. It will have a capacity of 1000 MW developed in two phases. The first phase will give the infrastructure a capacity of 600 MW. The total cost of the project is estimated at USD 1 billion.

It will be implemented as part of a system under which the developer will build and operate the plant before handing it over to the Congolese state. The plant will be built by The SANDI Group through its Sun Plus branch. It is subject to an electricity repurchase contract signed with the Congolese national electricity company for a period of 25 years. The electricity tariff has been established at $ 0.095 per kilowatt hour and will undergo an annual increase from the third year on the basis of the United States consumer price index.
